The importance of the telecommunication sector both in Turkey and world is increasing day by day.

The biggest difference of the communication age is that it has made the remote communication the basic requirement of people. In other words, communication has become as important as eating, drinking and breathing in our lives.

Countries that had incomplete telecommunication infrastructure remained economically underdeveloped and could not obtain the political stabilisation. Because the information that is now the most valuable thing of the world can be acquired and shared solely by means of information and communication technologies (ICT).

The revolution in the communication world that has started with the telephone has acquired a new acceleration with the new developments in digital technologies. Digitalisation has started in all communication equipment. Speed and quality explosion is experienced in remote sound, information and image communication. While the deep differences between the countries regarding the utilisation of this technology is expressed as "digital divide" an international cooperation is started for the removal of this divide. Because, the countries that do not or can not use the latest communication technologies will be condemned to remain underdeveloped. This subject constitutes one of the biggest anxieties of the sensitive countries.

Telecommunication being the most nonrenouncables of life after being electronised has risen the interest in this sector. The biggest companies of the world are taking a step in the telecommunication sector. This great interest put forth the requirement for institutions that will regulate and represent this sector on national and international platforms. Turkish Telecommunication Institution executes this function.
